BERLIN (AP) – Germany will become the first team to qualify for the 2012 European Championships if it maintains its 100 percent record in Group A with a win against Austria in Gelsenkirchen.
Only Turkey retains a mathematical chance of catching Germany, which would qualify regardless of Turkey's result in Kazakhstan with eight wins from eight on Friday.
Belgium, currently second in the group, travels to Azerbaijan.
Austria still has a slim chance of finishing second, but has lost five of its last six matches.
However, groin injuries have taken their toll on Germany, ruling out Bayern striker Mario Gomez - who scored both goals when Germany beat Austria 2-1 in June - and midfielders Sami Khedira and Marco Reus. Borussia Dortmund midfielder Sven Bender withdrew with an ankle injury.
