PARIS (AP) – Turkish club Fenerbahce says it has reached an agreement to transfer Uruguay captain Diego Lugano to Paris Saint-Germain.
PSG has spent more than $116 million this summer in a bid to contend for the French league title and be more competitive on the European stage. PSG has yet to confirm the deal.
Lugano led Uruguay to a record 15th Copa America title in July and to a World Cup semifinal last year.
Fenerbahce is embroiled in a match-fixing scandal and risks losing its Turkish league title having already been withdrawn from UEFA Champions League by the Turkish Football Federation.
More than 30 people, including Fenerbahce President Aziz Yildirim, have been arrested in the ongoing match-fixing investigation.
