TUKWILA – The Seattle Sounders FC have acquired American forward Sammy Ochoa through the Major League Soccer allocation process.
The Sounders announced the acquisition on Friday. Ochoa was acquired after Seattle traded a 2012 third-round MLS SuperDraft pick to Chicago in order to move up in the allocation process.
The 24-year-old Ochoa signed with MLS earlier this week after spending the past five seasons playing for Mexico's Estudiantes Tecos. He trained with the Sounders in June and played in a reserve league game.
"We're happy to have Sammy join our team because it gives us a little more depth at forward. He did well when he was here on his trial. Now it's just a matter of getting him fit and getting his game legs and he could help us," Seattle coach Sigi Schmid said.
