MONTEVIDEO, Uruguay – Uruguay defender Sebastian Coates is on his way to England to seal a transfer to Premier League side Liverpool from Nacional de Montevideo.
The 20-year-old center-back, voted best young player in July's Copa America, is expected to cost around $11.5 million.
Coates says he has ''happy memories'' of his time with Nacional and hopes to rejoin the club some time in the future, according to a statement on the Uruguayan club's website.
The tall defender, renowned for his composure on the ball and aerial ability, will undergo a medical with Liverpool ahead of signing.
He will join international teammate Luis Suarez in Liverpool's ranks if the transfer is finalized.
