Mario Gomez's seventh minute goal in Switzerland sealed Bayern Munich's victory over FC Zurich, giving the Bavarians a 1-0 victory on Tuesday night, a 3-0 win over the tie's two legs.

Gomez was put behind the Zurich defense thanks to a pass from the right flank for Thomas Mueller. One touch from the German target man set himself up 16 yards from goal, from where he slotted his left-footed shot into the lower-left hand corner of goal, eliminating what little doubt carried over from FCB's 2-0 win last week at the Allianz Arena.

Bayern dominated play throughout the final 83 minutes, making it an easy day for goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, who was rarely called upon. Even as rain fell during the second half at the Letzigrund, Jupp Hyenckes's side maintained a stranglehold of the match, never having to use star attacker Arjen Robben, who was relegated to the bench to rest an aching back.

With the win, Bayern advances to UEFA Champions League group stage, where they will be one of eight Pot 1 teams for Friday's group draw. That status, garnered based on performance over the last five Champions and Europe Leagues, ensures the German giants will avoid being drawn into the same group as the likes of Barcelona, Manchester United, and Real Madrid.

FC Zurich, by virtue of their loss, is sent to Europa League, where they'll be entered into the competition's group state, also to be drawn on Friday in Monaco.
