WOLFSBURG, Germany (AP) – Wolfsburg says it has signed out-of-contract midfielder Thomas Hitzlsperger on a free transfer.
The Bundesliga club announced Wednesday that the 29-year-old former Germany international was given a three-year deal and will wear the number 10 shirt.
Hitzlsperger played for West Ham last season but his contract was terminated following the London club's relegation from the Premier League.
He said he was ''happy to be back in Germany.''
Hitzlsperger played 52 games for Germany, and scored 20 goals in 125 Bundesliga appearances for Stuttgart. He also played for English side Aston Villa from 2001-05 and had a six-month spell at Lazio in Italy.
