Rangers says it has signed United States captain Carlos Bocanegra from Saint-Etienne on a three-year contract.

The 32-year-old defender joins U.S. teammates Alejandro Bedoya and Maurice Edu at the Scottish club and could make his debut in the Europa League playoff against Slovenian side Maribor on Thursday.

Bocanegra began his career at Chicago Fire before spending four seasons at Premier League club Fulham. He left for Rennes in 2008 and spent last season at Saint-Etienne.

He has made 93 appearances for his country.
