The Argentina No.1, who arrived in Alkmaar four years ago, was absent for their Eredivisie opener against PSV at the weekend. It is thought Serie B side Samp are close to signing the 24-year-old on a four-year contract in a deal worth €3.5million (£3.1m). Romero is expected to travel to Italy this weekend to finalise the deal. Speaking about his future to De Telegraaf earlier this week, the keeper said: "There is today, Wednesday, nothing. "I do not know if next week might be different. "Of course, it is normal that my manager is looking for a new club. It always occurs in July and January. Every manager is looking for a new club. "If there is a club, then I will look at it. I can compare whether it is better than what I have or if I'm better off with AZ playing in the Champions League."
