Kazakhstan was held to a 1-1 draw at home by Syria in an evenly contested friendly on Wednesday.

Nadim Sabagh put the visitors ahead in the 64th minute, but Zhambyl Kukeyev equalized for Kazakhstan six minutes later.

Mohammed Estanbeli was sent off for Syria after receiving a second yellow card in the 85th minute.

There were no signs of pro-Syrian opposition demonstrations in the Kazakh capital, Astana, despite deepening unrest in the Middle East country with hundreds of people believed to have been killed in recent months from violent crackdowns on protesters.
