Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard will miss England's friendly against the Netherlands on Wednesday because of a throat infection.

The Football Association said Lampard pulled out of the squad on Monday and returned to Chelsea to receive treatment.

He is the third England player to be ruled out for the match after Jack Wilshere and Michael Carrick, but coach Fabio Capello said he would not call up a replacement.

Chelsea did not say whether it expects Lampard to be fit for the club's Premier League opener at Stoke on Sunday.
