John Toshack is the new coach of Macedonia.

The former Liverpool player and veteran coach replaces Mirsad Jonuz, who was dismissed in June after poor results in 2012 European Championship qualifiers.

Macedonia is fifth in Group B, with only 4 points from six games.

Macedonian football federation chief Hari Hadzi-Risteski announced Toshack's appointment.

Toshack, 62, resigned as Wales coach in September 2010 following a loss to Montenegro in the team's opening Euro 2012 qualifier.

Toshack began his coaching career at Swansea and has also coached in Portugal, Spain, Turkey, France and Italy. He served two stints at Real Madrid, winning the league title in 1990.
