Luuk de Jong scored twice on his 21st birthday to help FC Twente return to the top of the Dutch league with a 4-1 victory over VVV-Venlo on Saturday.

Bryan Ruiz opened the scoring for Twente two minutes into the game by heading Ola John's cross but Nigeria forward Ahmed Musa equalized in the 26th making full use of a counterattack.

Twente regained the lead when De Jong converted Marc Janko's pass two minutes later.

Janko netted the third in the 31st after going one-on-one with Gunternaar before playing in De Jong for the fourth in the 66th.

Ajax briefly led the standings after a 4-1 win over Vitesse Arnhem on Friday.

Twente, which has maintained a perfect start to the season, has two more points than Ajax.
