PEREIRA, Colombia (AP) – Vuvuzelas aren't the most welcome sound in this city.
A city hosting the Under-20 World Cup in Colombia have banned fans from taking the noisemakers to games. Pereira city officials made the announcement before Ecuador was to play Costa Rica and Nigeria was to face Saudi Arabia in a double-header Saturday at Hernan Ramirez Villegas Stadium.
Police officer Gustavo Londono said the instruments were a nuisance during games. Some players had complained the vuvuzelas made communication difficult.
Vuvuzelas provided the soundtrack for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. They have made a comeback at the tournament in Colombia, especially in matches played by the host. There are no bans yet for other stadiums.
