PARIS (AP) – Atletico Rafaela opened its Apertura season with a 2-0 away win at Banfield despite finishing the match with only nine men.
Two goals in the space of three minutes from Dario Gandin, the first a 10th minute penalty, put them in control and Banfield could not find a way back despite the dismissal of Ivan Juarez after half an hour and Federico Gonzalez six minutes into the second half.
There were also two red cards in the other match, a 1-1 draw between Union Santa Fe and Argentinos Juniors.
Union's Renzo Vera was sent off after half an hour and Emilio Hernandez followed moments later with the game goalless.
Salcedo Gonzalez put Juniors in front early in the second half, but his strike was quickly cancelled out by Juan Avendano's 51st minute goal.
