LONDON (AP) – Portugal midfielder Luis Boa Morte has left West Ham after 4 1/2 years at the club.
The 33-year-old Boa Morte, who played for Portugal at the 2006 World Cup, made 109 appearances for West Ham. He had one year left on his contract, but left by mutual consent.
Boa Morte says ''I am sad to leave West Ham as I have made a lot of friends here. It is also a sad day for me to leave playing football in England after 14 years.''
The midfielder had also played for Arsenal, Fulham and Southampton during his time in English football.
West Ham says Boa Morte has had his contract canceled to allow him to pursue a new opportunity abroad.
