Midfielder Steed Malbranque has joined Saint-Etienne from Sunderland on a two-year deal.

Saint-Etienne announced the deal on its website late Wednesday, without giving any financial details.

The 31-year-old Malbranque had played for Sunderland for the past three seasons and had one year left on his contract.

He previously played for Tottenham and Fulham and started his career with French club Lyon, before leaving to join Fulham 10 years ago.

Malbranque played 335 league games in his spells with Tottenham, Fulham and England, scoring 39 goals.

He could make his Saint-Etienne debut away to Bordeaux on Sunday.
