Brazil left back Alex Sandro has been ruled out of the rest of the Under-20 World Cup because of a thigh injury.

Alex Sandro had to be replaced less than 15 minutes into Brazil's 3-0 victory against Austria on Monday and exams later showed a muscle tear in his right thigh.

Brazil doctor Edilson Thiele said in a statement Wednesday the injury will keep Alex Sandro sidelined for up to six weeks.

The Santos player had recovered from a similar injury just before the tournament in Colombia began last week.

Gabriel Silva of Palmeiras replaced Alex Sandro in Monday's match.

Brazil will face Panama in its third group game on Thursday. The Brazilians lead Group E with four points, along with Egypt.
