Banned FIFA executive Mohamed bin Hammam will not be replaced as Asian Football Confederation president just yet, after the continental body delayed a decision on whether or not to hold an election to replace him.

The committee met behind closed doors Friday to consider whether to immediately replace bin Hammam - who was last weekend banned for life by football's world governing body amid a bribery scandal - or whether to accede to his request to wait for the outcome of appeals.

All Friday's meeting agreed was to set up a committee to look at the matter, with its members not yet decided.

An election must be held if the presidency is still vacant after May 30 next year.
