Swiss club Neuchatel Xamax has hired former Sevilla, Deportivo La Coruna and Athletic Bilbao coach Joaquin Caparros after a turbulent start to the season.

Neuchatel has lost its first two league matches without scoring a goal and fired its sporting director, former Brazil forward Sonny Anderson, the coaching staff plus several players.

Chechen owner Bulat Chagaev has also demoted the club's managing director and terminated the contract of the team's shirt sponsor.

Caparros has signed a one-year contract and took his first training session on Wednesday.

After spending the past four seasons in Bilbao, Caparros's contract was not renewed and he was replaced by former Chile coach Marcelo Bielsa.
