Tottenham Hotspur says its Brazil midfielder Sandro will be out for three months after having knee surgery on his return from the Copa America in Argentina.

Sandro, who underwent the operation in London late Friday, had to leave the Brazil squad after scans revealed a torn lateral meniscus in his left knee and a calf strain.

Spurs said on its website that an independent knee specialist ''has advised a three month rehabilitation period before a return to full training.''

The team starts the new Premier League season at home to Everton on Aug. 13.
