KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (AP) – A tour sponsor says Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish plans to cut short his Asian trip and return to England to finalize the signing of Stewart Downing from Aston Villa.
Liverpool announced Wednesday it had ''been granted permission to discuss personal terms'' with Downing.
The team arrived in Malaysia on Thursday for its preseason Asian tour but an official representing the Malaysian sponsors of the tour said they have been told Dalglish would fly back to England later Thursday. He spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to make the announcement.
The official spoke after Dalglish told a news conference in Kuala Lumpur that Liverpool would ''reveal the details (of the deal) once everything is sorted out.''
