German great Franz Beckenbauer says FIFA and world football is ''in a bad condition'' because of allegations of corruption against the game's top officials.

The World Cup-winning player and coach arrived in South Africa on Tuesday to back Munich's bid for the 2018 Winter Olympics, and says the accusations against leading figures ''have hurt football, (and) it shouldn't be.''

Corruption scandals have dogged world football's top body recently, but Beckenbauer also warned that rumors and unproven accusations are damaging the game's reputation.

Beckenbauer says: ''You can say he is guilty or he is guilty, it is just speculation, a lot of rumors. There is no evidence.''
