Rumors of a late summer friendly between the United States men's national team and Belgium have come to fruition. The Americans will play in Brussels on September 6th at King Baudouin Stadium in what will be their first match since the Gold Cup final.
Belgium, currently ranked 37th in FIFA's World Rankings, is in the midst of qualifying for the 2012 European Championships, sitting second place in Group A, behind Germany. The September meeting will occur four days after the Belgians return from a qualifier in Azerbaijan.
The United States are 24th in the latest FIFA ranking, down two spots from its previous month's ranking.
The match will take place at the former Heysel Stadium, the 50,122-seat venue the site of eight major European club finals, most recently 1996's Cup Winners Cup final.
