A funeral for Xavier Tondo, the Spanish cyclist who died in a freak accident, is scheduled for Wednesday.

The service for the Movistar rider, who was killed on Monday when he was crushed between his car and a garage door, will be held at the Pabellón Municipal de los Deportes de Olot in Girona, Spain, the team announced.

A Civil Guard spokesman said Tondo tried to get out of his car in a residential complex outside Granada on Monday to get the garage door to open. The car rolled forward, though, and pinned him against the door.

Cadena SER radio said Tondo was with fellow cyclist Benat Intxausti and the two were leaving to go training with Alejandro Valverde in the Sierra Nevada mountain range outside Granada.

Tondo, winner of this year's Castilla y Leon tour, was planning to compete in the Tour de France for Movistar.

The Spanish cycling federation said Tondo had won 14 races in his career.
