Velez Sarsfield took a four-point lead atop the Argentine Clausura league table Monday after two late goals in a 2-0 home win against Banfield.

Fabian Cubero broke the deadlock with an 84th-minute goal and David Ramirez secured the points with a second from Ivan Bella's cross in stoppage time.

With six games remaining, Velez moved to 27 points, four ahead of Godoy Cruz. River Plate and Olimpo are a point further back.

Banfield stayed 12th on 18 points, behind Boca Juniors and defending champion Estudiantes on goal difference.

Velez can now turn its attention to Thursday's quarterfinal clash in the Copa Libertadores against Paraguay's Libertad.
