A weekly recap of how Mexican internationals fared over the weekend.

Javier Hernández

For most of Manchester United's season, Javier Hernández forged a reputation as a late-game goal-scorer who turned losses into ties and draws into wins.

On Sunday, Chicharito threw out that script and added something new to his repertoire – scoring early, 35 seconds into the match, to be exact – to spark the Red Devils to a 2-1 vital victory over arch-rival Chelsea and within a point of clinching the English Premier League crown in Manchester, England.

Hernández did not waste any time as passes from Ryan Giggs and Ji-sung Park sprung the Mexican striker on goal. As David Luiz stretched in vain to intercept the pass, Hernández finished past goalkeeper Petr Cech.

The goal was Chicharito’s 20th in his debut season in Europe.

“I want to win that medal badly, and also to lift the trophy,” Hernández told the United website. “It would be a perfect end to my first season here.”

United (22-4-10, 76 points) needs only a point in its final two matches to secure its 19th league crown and 12th in the Premiership.

ManU plays at Blackburn on Saturday before hosting Blackpool in its season finale on Sunday, May 22. Second-place Chelsea (21-8-7, 70) will need a miracle and a half to catch up to its foes.

Giovani dos Santos

Dos Santos connected twice in the first half for Racing Santander in its 3-2 triumph over relegation-threatened Hercules in La Liga on Saturday. The win allowed Racing (11-14-10, 33) to climb into 11th place, out of the demotion zone.

Dos Santos' 13th-minute header off a brilliant run lifted Racing into the lead. After Sendoa Agirre's tied it, dos Santos struck again late in the first half off a counterattack, chipping the ball over a surprised goalkeeper Juan Calatayud from atop the penalty area.

Up next for Racing Atlético is Madrid at home on Tuesday and Sporting Gijon away on Sunday.

Andrés Guardado

Guardado, a midfielder, set up Adrian's goal in the 39th minute of Deportivo Coruña's 2-2 away tie at Sporting Gijon in La Liga on Saturday.

Valeron passed to Guardado, who sent a hard pass to Adrian, which led to a score. A tiring Guardado was replaced by Pablo Alvarez in the 89th minute. Deportivo, which is trying to stay out of the relegation zone, hosts Atheltic Bilboa on Tuesday and visits Barcelona on Sunday.

Both players' respective Dutch First Division teams, PSV Eindhoven (Rodríguez) and Alkmaar Zaanstreek (Moreno), did not play. Both clubs will play in their season finales on Sunday, PSV at FC Groningen and AZ at Utrecht.

“It was a very intense game and they applied pressure on us," Márquez said . "Maybe we didn’t play our best game but we had a lot of chances to score. But I think it was a fair result."

The Red Bulls next play an exhibition match Wednesday at the Montreal Impact (North American Soccer League), which will join MLS next season, before returning home to host Chivas USA at Red Bull Arena on Sunday.

Mariano Trujillo, Francisco Mendoza

Trujillo replaced forward Alejandro Moreno in the 72nd minute of Chivas USA's 1-0 loss at Real Salt Lake on Saturday. Midfielder Francisco Mendoza did not get off the bench.
