KANSAS CITY, Kansas (AP) – C.J. Sapong scored the first Major League Soccer goal at Kansas City's new home ground to give Sporting a 1-0 victory over the San Jose Earthquakes.
Sapong scored in the 31st minute when he leaped at the edge of the box and deflected a long free kick with his left foot past San Jose keeper Jon Busch.
Graham Zusi delivered the kick into the penalty area after Ramiro Corrales fouled Sporting's Davy Arnaud about 45 yards (meters) out.
Kansas City has won back-to-back games for the first time this season and is unbeaten in its last five matches. San Jose had a six-match unbeaten string broken.
Sporting played out a scoreless draw with Chicago when the $200 million Livestrong Sporting Park opened eight days ago.
