Two election officials and a police officer were killed Sunday when a bomb exploded as a truck carrying completed election ballots was passing by in northern Afghanistan's Kunduz province, a police official told Efe.
The spokesman for the provincial police, Sayed Sarwar Husaini, said that the blast occurred in Khanabad district as the election vehicle was en route to Kunduz, the capital of the same-named province.
According to officials in Kunduz, the ballots being transported by the truck were destroyed in the explosion.
This is the biggest attack staged since the presidential elections on Saturday in Afghanistan.
Almost 200 people, the great majority of them Taliban fighters, died on Saturday during the balloting in armed clashes all around the country, the Interior Ministry said Sunday. The Taliban had threatened to do all they could to disrupt the elections. EFE
