Jesus Zambrano will serve another term as chairman of Mexico's leftist Party of the Democratic Revolution, or PRD, party officials said.

The PRD's National Council also decided to retain Alejandro Sanchez as secretary-general.

Zambrano was elected to the post of chairman in March 2011 and his three-year term was up.

The PRD chairman delivered an address earlier this weekend to party officials, highlighting his achievements, such as the signing of the Pact for Mexico with President Enrique Peña Nieto, of the Institutional Revolutionary Party, or PRI, and the leaders of other political parties in December 2012.

The decision to sign the pact "created one of the biggest controversies within the PRD," Zambrano said. EFE
