CNN en Español on Monday launched "Voto Latino: Balance de Poder" (Latino Vote: Balance of Power), an initiative whereby it inaugurates its coverage of the runup to the 2014 legislative elections and with which it is seeking to take the viewership lead on political issues.
The programming kicked off in Orlando, Florida, on board the CNN Express bus, which over the coming days will travel to Tampa and Miami - and will head through Texas in December - before moving on to other states with a high percentage of Latinos.
The aim, as Willie A. Lora, CNN en Español's news and policy director, told Efe, is "to put a human face" on the arid legislative debates in Washington and explain how the decisions made - or not made - in the capital affect the average citizen.
CNN en Español is also seeking to take the pulse of Hispanic voters, a group that Lora says will once again be a key factor in the mid-term elections as well as in the presidential contest in 2016.
Among the issues that will be given priority within the framework of "Voto Latino" are the economy, employment, healthcare, immigration, cultural integration and the ever-more-distant relationship between politicians and the U.S. public. EFE
