Spain's King Juan Carlos suffered Tuesday a slight accident at home in the Zarzuela Palace that caused him a bruise around the left eye, but has not kept him from attending to his official public duties.

According to sources at the royal household, the monarch hit himself accidentally when he went to open a door, at the same time that an assistant on the other side opened it to clear the way.

The king hit his eye and nose on the edge of the door.

The domestic mishap did not keep the king from his appointment at the Royal Palace to receive the credentials of five new ambassadors, a ceremony at which he was accompanied by Foreign Minister Trinidad Jimenez and the palace chief of staff, Rafael Spottorno.

Before receiving one of the ambassadors, the king told Jimenez in a casual way the details of what had happened.
