Spain's Maritime Rescue and Civil Guard rescued Monday in waters of the Strait of Gibraltar a total of 227 mainly sub-Saharan immigrants trying to reach the Iberian peninsula from Morocco in 23 boats.
Of the 227 immigrants, 27 were women and three were minors, and all were take to Tarifa, Maritime Rescue told Efe.
Most of the migrants were aboard small inflatable rafts.
All rescues were carried out by Maritime Rescue except one, who was saved by a Civil Guard patrol boat.
These immigrants came immediately after the 84 rescued this weekend in waters of the Strait.
Fair weather over the past few days has encouraged dozens of undocumented sub-Saharan immigrants who had made the trip to Morocco to cross the Strait of Gibraltar in an effort to reach Spanish territory. EFE
