Police in Nicaragua on Thursday arrested a presumed MS-13 gang member who had been added the day before to the FBI's "Ten Most Wanted Fugitives" list as a suspect in the 2010 killings of his 19-year-old girlfriend and her toddler son in New York state.

Officials say Juan Elías García, who is also known by the nickname "Cruzito," was detained near the U.S. Embassy in Managua and immediately turned over to the FBI. They gave no other details about the arrest.

The 21-year-old suspect was added to the FBI's "Ten Most Wanted Fugitives" on Wednesday, the first MS-13 gang member to make the list.

Prosecutors allege the El Salvador-native lured Vanessa Argueta and her 2-year-old son into the woods around Central Islip, N.Y., in February 2010 where two other gang members shot them to death.

Based on reporting by the Associated Press.
