The mayor of the northern town of Santa Ana was shot and wounded in an ambush, Guatemala's PNC national police force said Wednesday.
Carlos Garrido Catalan was intercepted Tuesday night while driving through the community of El Juleque, on the outskirts of Santa Ana, a PNC spokesman told reporters.
"The official report says that men with their faces covered ambushed him and fired with automatic weapons, causing a wound in his right leg," the spokesman said.
Garrido managed to get away and eventually made it to a private clinic, where he remains in stable condition, according to the PNC, which has launched an investigation. EFE
