One soldier died and two others were injured Tuesday when a Mexican army airplane crashed in the central state of Puebla, authorities said.

The wreckage of the small plane was found around 12:30 p.m., according to Carlos Enriquez Gamez, the emergency services chief in the town of Atlixco.

One of the three men aboard died and the other two were seriously burned and transported to a hospital in Puebla city. Their condition is reported to be delicate.

Gamez said an investigation is being conducted to determine the cause of what so far is presumed to have been an accident.

The small plane crashed into cultivated fields in a very sparsely populated region.

Army units cordoned off the area and are in the process of removing the plane's wreckage. EFE
