A raging fire reduced to ashes 80 grocers' stalls in a Bogota market, government officials said, adding that no one was killed or injured by the spreading blaze.

Bogota's government secretary, Guillermo Alfonso Jaramillo, told reporters that the flames consumed 80 grocers' businesses in the Plaza de Paloquemao, Bogota's biggest market.

"The flames were very intense. Unfortunately, of all the market stalls, close to 80, none escaped," an official who came to market square said.

Firefighters chief Euclides Mancipe told reporters that up to now there have been no reports of anyone killed or injured, but they nonetheless continue combing the area to make sure there were no victims.

The authorities launched an investigation to determine the causes of Friday's blaze. EFE
