At least 10 people were killed and 13 were wounded in recent hours in multiple attacks in different parts of Iraq, police spokespersons told Efe Wednesday.

At least eight people died and seven were wounded in a bomb blast Wednesday morning that targeted a moving vehicle in the Shia-majority province of Wasit, located southeast of this capital.

In Baghdad, a civilian was killed and six others were wounded when a car bomb exploded Tuesday night in the Zafaraniyah district.

Earlier, gunmen killed a police officer Tuesday morning near his home in Mosul, a city 400 kilometers (250 miles) northwest of Baghdad.

Violence has risen significantly in the Arab nation since the start of the year, but has escalated even further since 500 suspected Al Qaeda militants broke out of the Abu Ghraib and Taji prisons in July. EFE
