Samsung Electronics, the global leader in smartphones, announced here the roll-out of handsets with curved screens.
The new models are set to go on sale in South Korea next month, company executives said at a Galaxy Note 3 launch event at Samsung headquarters in Seoul.
The devices will be equipped with plastic light-emitting diode, or OLED, panels, Samsung said, declining to offer any further technical details.
Improvements in the manufacturing process have led to plastic panels that are "strong enough to not break, even in the case of a fall," Park Sang-jin, CEO of Samsung SDI, said.
Another South Korean tech giant, LG Electronics, recently announced plans for OLED-equipped smartphones, but its models will not feature curved screens, Yonhap news agency said. EFE
