Spanish and French police have arrested 75 people - 51 in Spain and 24 in France - for smuggling Chinese into various European countries and the United States through a people-trafficking ring that charged the immigrants between 40,000 and 50,000 euros (between $55,000 and $65,000).

Among those arrested, according to Spanish police, were the kingpins of the organization in Europe, based in Barcelona.

Bearing fake IDs, the Chinese were brought into Spain, France, Greece, Italy, Britain, Ireland and Turkey, but also into the United States. At times the routes opened by the ring for this purpose were also used for sex trafficking.

Police have seized 81 forged passports purported to have been issued in such Asian countries as South Korea, Malaysia, Japan, Hong Kong and Singapore. EFE
