U.S. federal authorities on Wednesday evacuated the passengers of a passenger jet and searched it, including all the luggage, at the Philadelphia airport after a report was received of a bomb on board a US Airways jet arriving from Shannon, Ireland.

The 171 passengers and eight crew members were evacuated safely after the jet landed and taken to an isolated area at Phildelphia's International Airport to be processed and go through customs.

The bomb threat, which proved to be false, was made by an unidentified man who telephoned the airport, according to Philadelphia police.

Although the baggage had been screened in Ireland before the plane took off, all of it on board the plane, a Boeing 757, was examined again by authorities as a precaution. EFE
