Customs and Border Protection agents in western Puerto Rico detained 17 undocumented migrants - 15 Haitians and two Dominicans - for trying to illegally enter U.S. territory.

The migrants were detained after personnel with the Puerto Rican Department of Natural and Environmental Resources spotted the possible disembarkation of immigrants on the Pajaros beach on Mona Island.

Puerto Rican authorities began searching for the migrants and first found the two Dominicans and later the Haitians, who were given first aid for symptoms of dehydration.

The group was placed on board a U.S. Coast Guard vessel and taken to the western Puerto Rican port of Mayagüez for processing by the CBP. EFE
