U.S. Customs and Border Patrol agents detained 25 undocumented Dominicans in Camuy, a town on the northern coast of Puerto Rico.
The CBP said Tuesday in a communique that the detentions took place on Monday afternoon, when Puerto Rican police reported the sighting of a group of individuals who had just gotten off a boat on the coast at Camuy.
CBP agents, supported by a police helicopter and Camuy municipal police officers, initially located seven undocumented migrants - six men and a woman - all of them Dominicans, and found a homemade raft drifting in heavy surf near the beach.
During the night, another 18 migrants were found, and all of them were reported to be in good health after an initial medical examination.
The group was transferred to the Coast Guard station at Ramey, in the municipality of Aguadilla, for processing in accord with U.S. immigration regulations.
The U.S. CPB on Tuesday once again urged those who are intending to travel from the Dominican Republic illegally to Puerto Rico not to do so. EFE
