At least eight people were killed Friday by a bomb that was attached to their car as they returned from a funeral in the southeastern province of Khost, Afghan news agency AIP said.
The explosion occurred in the early afternoon in Khost city as the eight fatalities were returning from paying tribute to a local resident who had died in Pakistan, acquaintances of the victims said.
A local religious leader was among the dead.
Others who went to the funeral told AIP that both those killed by the explosion and the deceased to whom they paid tribute were "orginary people," with no ties to the Afghan government.
The U.N. mission in Afghanistan reported this week that the war in the first five months of this year took 2,499 civilian lives, 24 percent more than in the same period last year. EFE
