A former mayor and current mayoral candidate in Julimes, a city in the northern Mexican state of Chihuahua, was shot to death, prosecutors said.
David Carrasco Carnero, who served as mayor of the city from 2004 to 2007, was found dead Friday night under a bridge.
The politician's family had reported him missing a day earlier.
The former mayor's wife told police he went to work in the family's vegetable garden and never returned, media reports said.
Carrasco was shot five times, the Chihuahua Attorney General's Office said.
The 52-year-old Carrasco was expected to be the mayoral candidate of the conservative National Action Party, or PAN. EFE
