The Massachusetts Institute of Technology issued an alert Saturday after receiving a report from police about a man on campus carrying a long rifle and wearing body armor.

Cambridge police were still looking for the alleged gunman, while students of this prestigious university were told to stay indoors until the situation is cleared up.

Police received a report Saturday morning notifying them that an armed man was inside one of the university's buildings, but thus far have not found anyone who fits the description given.

The university issued an emergency alert warning students to take shelter and stay far away from the Main Group Building, where the individual was reportedly seen.

MIT also urged people to report "suspicious activity" to the campus police.

One of the top universities in the United States, MIT is known for its strong emphasis on scientific, engineering and technological education and research. EFE
