Ten people were killed and 11 others were injured Monday when a freight train and a bus collided in the northeastern Chinese province of Heilongjiang, authorities said
The accident, in which six people died instantly, occurred at 7:36 a.m. at a train crossing in the city of Heihe.
Another victim died on the way to hospital, while three more expired after being admitted. Eleven passengers were treated for slight injuries.
A track supervisor was unable to arrive in time to warn the bus driver that the train was coming, the official Xinhua news agency said.
The railroad safety administration in Harbin, the provincial capital, has launched an in-depth investigation of the causes of the accident.
All the fatalities were passengers on the bus.
The train in the crash has been removed from the scene and the railroad line was again operating normally just two hours after the accident. EFE
