At least 13 workers died when a building went up in flames in the Mujarqa neighborhood of the Bahrain capital, the official Bahrain news agency BNA said Saturday.

Emergency management work continued for hours after the roof of the building collapsed in the blaze, according to the news agency, which noted that the victims have not yet been identified, though the majority are believed to have come from Bangladesh, Pakistan and India.

Firefighters meanwhile had to work extra fast to keep the fire from spreading to other buildings in this densely populated district, BNA said.

Bahraini Prime Minister Jalifa bin Salman al Jalifa ordered the necessary aid to be supplied to the injured and the victims' families, while an investigation was opened to determine what caused the disaster. EFE
