A Mexican man lamented that U.S. immigration officials didn’t allow the parents of his dying wife to travel from Mexico to Houston to see her one last time before she died.

Luis Aguillon told the Houston Chronicle that his 26-year-old Mexican immigrant wife, Maria Sanchez, died Sunday afternoon.

Her parents were denied entry by federal officials to see their daughter before she passed.

Sanchez had an inoperable tumor on her spine and was being cared for by Aguillon at the couple's Houston apartment.

Customs and Border Protection officials three times denied her parents' request to enter the country on humanitarian grounds to visit her. Sanchez, who was in the U.S. illegally, hadn't seen them in nine years.

A Customs and Border Protection spokesman says the rare humanitarian parole could be granted only for a very compelling emergency.

Aguillon, who is legally in the U.S., said he'll take his wife's body to Mexico for burial.
