Vehicle production in Brazil came in at 3.34 million units last year, down from 3.4 million in 2011 and the first annual decline since 2009, the Anfavea industry association said Monday.
By sectors, last year the assembly lines turned out 3.17 million commercial automobiles, 1.2 percent more than in 2011.
However, the manufacture of trucks registered a sharp decline of 40.5 percent to 132,820 units.
Meanwhile, production of buses fell 25.4 percent to 36,844 units.
Last year, a record 3.8 million light commercial automobiles, trucks and buses were sold in Brazil, a 4.6 percent hike over 2011 sales.
Exports of Brazilian automobiles totaled $14.72 billion in 2012, 9.3 percent below foreign sales the year before.
