A woman wearing an Afghan police uniform in Kabul on Sunday shot to death a U.S. contractor working with NATO forces in this country, a government official told Efe.
According to the spokesman for the International Security Assistance Force, or ISAF, Hagen Messer, the contractor was murdered in the police headquarters in Kabul.
He said that after the incident the woman was arrested and she is now in police custody.
The spokesman for the Afghan Interior Ministry, Sediq Seddiqi, initially identified the victim as a U.S. soldier.
According to local observers, this is the first attack of its kind carried out by a woman.
The murder came after the United States last September suspended the training of recruits for the Afghan security forces due to the increasing infiltration of those forces by Taliban fighters.
About 50 NATO soldiers have been killed by uniformed Afghans so far this year, a situation that military experts say is a new strategy being pursued by the insurgent movement. EFE
